Kylemore Abbey (Irish: Mainistir na Coille Móire) is a Benedictine monastery founded in 1920 on the grounds of Kylemore Castle, in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland. The abbey was founded for Benedictine Nuns who fled Belgium in World War I. The current Mother Abbess of the Benedictine Community is Marie Hickey.
After the long and tiring hike of the previous day, we know are going to visit this Abbey placed on a very privileged site, in the feet of the Connemara mountains.
There we can visit the Abbey which is open to the public, and has been completely restores to show visitors how the Henry family lived back in the 19th Century.
We will also visit the mausoleum of the family and a beautiful gothic cathedral.
Our visit cannot finish without visiting the colourful Victorian gardens that surround the abbey, where we can see how the workers lived and we can even have a tasteful tea and cake at the coffeshop!
